About the Stewart Clifford Gallery

For painters, or artists of any type for that matter, the name Provincetown conjures up the greats of the past 100 years. It is a town filled to the rafters with ghosts of earlier eras that shaped the present. In the town’s West End, Hans Hofmann taught a generation of abstract expressionists in his loft studio. Edward Hopper, Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock… they all spent time living and working in this city on the edge. Provincetown, for better or worse, was the "it" town for artists then and remains a Mecca for fine arts today.

Provincetown with its unique location at the very end of Cape Cod, it is a haven for many. The natural beauty of Cape Cod –– and the unique light that can be found in Provincetown combine in a special way, making this town a magnet for artists from all over the world. The Stewart Clifford Gallery is committed to extending this experience –– exploring the natural world through the visual arts and photography –– through the works of several outstanding artists.
